Training: originally from North Lanarkshire, Scotland, Derek started his training on the musical theatre course at the Dance School of Scotland under the supervision of Graham Dickie and graduated with a BA (honours) from Arts Educational. Roles while training included Doug Snell in Peggy Sue Got Married, Anatoly Sergievsky in Chess, Mick Hamilton in Kander and Ebb’s Steel Pier (European premiere) and the Narrator in Putting it Tog et her.
Theatre includes: understudying and playing Pepper in Mamma Mia! (international tour), Chess (Oslo Specktrum), understudying and playing The Beast, Cogsworth and Maurice in Beauty and the Beast (UK and international tour), Jack and the Beanstalk (Mansfield and Blackpool) and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Mansfield). Workshops include: Lead Vocalist in The Stephanie Lawrence Project, creating the role of Bert in the original workshop of It’s a Wonderful Life and Clyde in the original workshop of Bonnie and Clyde.
Recordings include: Bonnie and Clyde.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is Derek’s West End debut.
