Former Josephs say happy birthday London Palladium!

On Tuesday 12th October 2010, Andrew Lloyd Webber hosted a star-studded birthday party for the world-famous Variety Theatre the London Palladium, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Former Josephs Jason Donovan and Philip Schofield – both of whom played the role during the London Palladium revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the 1990s – were among the guests on hand to mark the theatre’s incredible birthday.

In our exclusive video footage, Andrew is joined by former Sunday Night at the London Palladium host Bruce Forsyth CBE and Danielle Hope, who will next year make her own Palladium stage debut as Dorothy in Andrew’s production of The Wizard of Oz, as they unveiled a commemorative plaque at the theatre – and cut the birthday cake, of course.

Andrew took the opportunity to tell the assembled guests about his plans for the rebuilding and refurbishment of the London Palladium’s front of house areas. And, as the party got underway the audience – featuring stars of stage and screen including Michael Ball, Elaine Paige, Lesley Garrett, Jonathan Pryce and Des O’Connor – were treated to an impromptu live performance from Neil Sedaka…

And we caught up with a few of the famous faces – including Jason Donovan, Philip Schofield and vocal coach Yvie Burnett who passed on their own birthday wishes. Happy Birthday, London Palladium!
